Club Changes and Grading News

On July 11, 2016, Mary-Kate Proud became the new captain of UTNC. We are proud to have her as our new instructor for the club and wish her good luck in her role.

Also, Abigail Lim became the new president of UTNC. May she lead the club to a successful year.

Congradulations to everyone who graded at the JCCC this past weekend for passing. Grading is an important part of Naginata, and may everyone continue to grade or enter their first grading in the future.

UTNC Webmaster 2016-2017

Hi, I’m Sean Lai, the new webmaster of the U of T Naginata Club.

I plan on updating this site so that it can become a point of reference for beginners such as adjusting the vocab page (perhaps with voice clips for proper pronounciation), including instructional videos for properly folding up the naginata uniform and putting on bogu. I also hope to be able to make a few improvements regarding the layout of this site.

If you are a member of the club and would like to get in contact with me regarding announcements or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to find me in person at practice (my first practice of this summer will be on Sunday, June 5) and at social or via Facebook/Messenger.

I wish everyone a great year!

Hi everyone! I’m Abigail, and I’m going to be taking over as the UTNC Webmaster for the rest of the year. I’ll be one of your first lines of contact online, so I’m looking forwards to being in touch with all of you!

This year, I’m hoping to bring this site to life with some new content. So! Throughout the year, in addition to reminders about practices and social events, I’d also like to make a few posts here about Naginata that’ll hopefully be helpful to beginners and interested newbies who’d like to learn a bit more about the martial art and the club.

As the beginner tournament and grading are both coming up pretty soon, I thought I’d start by posting a couple of engi videos for those of you going for grading. Check them out below the cut!

Hello World!

Hello fellow practitioners and members.  I am your new webmaster, making a quick post.  Please stay in tone for more weekly practice updates, news and more!  Meantime, enjoy your summers, and I’ll see you around.

Recent news, the winter semester practice on Sundays are officially over as we enter spring session.  Please kindly pay a rental fee of $25+tax, to Hart House, so we can keep the time slot and gym open.  This session will last until end of June, or approximately 7 weeks (from this post).  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Matt for his job acceptance in Japan.  Unfortunately, this means he won’t be with us next year.  However, another very capable captain has been selected.  Wesley Law will be the captain for UTNC/UTBN for next year.

That’s all the news for now.  Hope we have a good one.  If you have any questions, please comment, find an exec, or contact us and we’ll gladly help you.  Meanwhile, keep your stick on the ice.
